Get Ready for Rwanda's Ironman 70.3 in Rubavu This August

Get ready for an exciting event in Rwanda! On August 4th, 2024, Rubavu District will host a thrilling Ironman competition. This event is a "70.3 Ironman," also known as a Half Ironman. The "70.3" stands for the total distance of the race, which is 70.3 miles. The race includes three parts:

 1. Swim: 1.2 miles (1.9 kilometers)

2. Bike: 56 miles (90 kilometers)

3. Run: 13.1 miles (21.1 kilometers), which is a half marathon

 


Ironman is part of the triathlon games, a tough race that combines swimming, biking, and running without any breaks.

 


Triathlons started in Rwanda in 2014, with local athletes participating. Since Ironman joined, the sport has become very popular. Athletes from around the world now register to compete in Rwanda.

 


In 2022, Rwanda made history by becoming the first country in East and Central Africa to host the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon. The upcoming competition was announced in Rubavu District, the host city, on January 20th. This year, many athletes from around the globe are expected to participate. Registration will end on July 2nd, 2024.
