Kigali Prepares for Exciting FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifiers
Rwanda, get ready! From August 19-25, 2024, Kigali will host the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournament. Exciting games will feature eight teams from around the world, all competing for a chance to advance to the Qualifying Tournaments in March 2026.
After a competitive bidding process, the Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) won the right to host this important event. The tournament will bring top teams from Africa, the Americas, Asia/Oceania, and Europe to Kigali. The teams will compete in group play, Semi-Finals, and a Final, ensuring a diverse and thrilling competition.
The teams playing in Kigali include:
- Africa: Senegal, Mali, Rwanda, Mozambique
- Americas: Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina
- Asia/Oceania: New Zealand, Korea, Philippines, Lebanon
- Europe: Hungary, Czechia, Montenegro, Great Britain
The top two teams from each group will move on to the Semi-Finals, with the winner earning a spot in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments.
This tournament is a great chance for Rwanda to show off its growing basketball culture and hospitality. FIBA's expanded women's competition system aims to give more national teams the chance to compete internationally, making the sport more inclusive and competitive.
The draw for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournaments will take place on April 25 at 14:00 (CET) at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball and will be live-streamed on FIBA's YouTube channel.
